SFC Martin grew up a St. Louis Cardinals fan, and has a taste for artsy movies, naming Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and Citizen Kane as two of his favorites, even reluctantly admitting his fondness for Chariots of Fire. SGt Martin is a family man, having married his college sweetheart and having one daughter. He explained that he originally joined the military when he was 1. United States Marine Corps. After serving several years on active duty and in the reserves as a Marine, he joined the Army to provide healthcare for his family. After serving as Squad Leader in Battle Company of the 2- 5. Korengal Valley of Afghanistan, he went on to serve with Chosen Company and Destined Company, both in the Wardak Province of Afghanistan as Platoon Sergeant. His three deployments to Afghanistan total 3 years, with deployments lasting 1. Korengal Valley, 1. Jalrez, Wardak Province, and 9 months in Sayedabad, Wardak Province. His favorite experience in the army, though, was being stationed in Italy with the 1. Airborne Division. He said that his seven years spent there was “eye- opening.”Though he’s only been here a few weeks, he admits that he’s enjoying him self so far with the Battalion.
